"Level Devil – NOT A Troll Game" is a 2D platformer developed by Unept. With nearly 200 levels, each one is filled with traps and surprises, oscillating between cute and challenging. While the name emphasizes "not a prank game," the actual experience is truly a gentle torture—every death is a laughable collapse.
The game's design divides the levels into several "doors" (or gates), each containing several sub-levels of increasing difficulty. Later in the game, numerous mechanics converge to challenge you, and every step is filled with traps. Despite the varied mechanics, the difficulty curve is balanced, preventing frustration.
The levels are crisscrossed by unexpected traps: moving walls, false platforms, spikes, spinning saw blades (though they're "cute"), gravity fluctuations... Don't expect to breeze through them; you could be killed at every step. Even if you're almost there, a single misstep could send you back to the bottom.
Here, "you never truly die." Simply keep trying, constantly review your failures, and gradually master the mechanisms. Failure is simply a learning process; each new challenge tests your reflexes and memory.
The game features a pixel-art style and simple graphics, creating a clean, unpretentious aesthetic while creating a sense of "devilish humor." Combined with the relaxing soundtrack, players can constantly smile as they continue to the next round, even while being repeatedly tormented by the mechanisms.
In addition to the single-player experience, the game also supports local two-player mode, allowing you and a friend to "trick and be tricked" on the same device, experiencing the dual thrills of competition and collaboration.
In "Level Devil – NOT A Troll Game," players control a tiny pixel character, starting from the start of a level and advancing step by step towards the door at the end. It sounds simple, but the essence of the game lies in its unpredictable traps and mechanisms. A seemingly safe path on a platform might collapse the moment you step on it, revealing a crisscross of spikes; a stationary wall might suddenly shift, forcing you into a corner; even the gap you just jumped over might suddenly erupt with a spinning saw blade, striking you down. Each level is like a meticulously crafted puzzle, requiring you to find a safe path through trial and error.
The game's controls are intuitive, primarily relying on left and right movement and jumping, but the real challenge lies in mastering the rhythm and anticipating traps. Players must observe the details of the environment and learn to discern which platforms might be traps and which seemingly threatening mechanisms are actually safe to use. Sometimes, you'll even need to exploit the rhythm of the mechanisms, such as stepping on a moving obstacle to leap to a higher platform or using a rebound to propel yourself to a hard-to-reach location.
After each failure, the game immediately returns you to the start of the level, eliminating any unnecessary waiting, allowing players to quickly retry and accumulate experience. While deaths can be incredibly frequent, this trial-and-error nature is precisely what makes the game so enjoyable. Every successful avoidance of a trap and precise leap brings immense satisfaction. As the levels progress, the trap combinations become increasingly complex, creating chain reactions between different mechanisms, forcing you to navigate multiple crises in a matter of seconds.
Level Devil – NOT A Troll Game also cleverly creates psychological challenges. Even though the levels appear short, you're constantly on edge as new traps appear. This constant tension makes the journey even more thrilling. It tests your reaction speed, memory, and patience. When you finally cross the final door, all your failures and setbacks transform into a sense of accomplishment, making it incredibly tempting to continue on to the next level.
